Pharmacies selling unregulated drugs to face legal action
Pharmacies in seven townships in the Mandalay district area found to be selling unlicensed and expired drugs will face severe action, including the closure of their stores, under a proposal submitted by the Food and Drug Administration (Mandalay branch) to the Mandalay regional government. The proposal also states that checks by the FDA will be conducted on pharmacies in all seven townships on a weekly and monthly basis. Although Mandalay pharmacy owners and officials from the FDA (Mandalay branch) have met numerous times to discuss the importance of providing people with safe and top-quality drugs, a list by the FDA Department showed that there were 27 pharmacies selling unregulated drugs, including expired products.
